Kia's Latest Electric SUV Revealed: Get to Know the 2027 EV3 in Quebec

Kia built the EV9 to prove electric SUVs could be spacious, premium, and practical. The 2027 EV3 takes that same philosophy and shrinks it down to subcompact dimensions - without losing the technology, range, or refinement. This is Kia's answer to buyers who want the EV lifestyle in a package that fits Montreal parking spots and Quebec City's narrow streets.

The EV3 made its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show in April 2026 and is expected to arrive at Canadian dealerships in late Q3 2026. It slots into one of the fastest-growing segments in the country - subcompact SUVs - and brings features typically reserved for larger, more expensive models.

What Makes the EV3 Different

The EV3 is built on Kia's 400V E-GMP platform, the same dedicated electric architecture that underpins the EV9. This isn't a converted gas-powered chassis - it's engineered specifically for electric propulsion, which means a flat floor, optimized weight distribution, and maximized interior space.

Two battery options are available. The base Light trim uses a 58.3 kWh battery paired with front-wheel drive, rated at up to 354 kilometres of range. The larger 81.4 kWh battery pushes that figure to up to 482 kilometres (FWD). All-wheel drive is optional on Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT-Line Limited trims, and standard on the GT.

Charging is competitive: the 58.3 kWh battery recharges from 10 to 80% in an estimated 29 minutes using a DC fast charger, while the 81.4 kWh battery takes 31 minutes. The EV3 features a native NACS charging port, giving it access to Tesla's Supercharger network without an adapter.

Kia's i-Pedal 3.0 technology is standard across the lineup, letting you control speed and bring the vehicle to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal. The system now works in reverse, and the i-Pedal Memory function reverts to your last-used setting when you restart the vehicle.

The available Onboard Power Generator (V2L) turns the EV3 into a mobile power source for laptops, e-bikes, or campsite equipment - useful for tailgating or emergency backup power at home.

Design That Stands Apart

The EV3 follows Kia's Opposites United design language. The front end features Kia's star map DRL design - vertically arranged LED lights paired with horizontal elements that form the latest interpretation of Kia's Tiger Face. The profile is aerodynamic, with short overhangs and a low, sloping roofline. Hidden rear door handles keep the side view clean, while combination taillamps echo the star map lighting design.

Kia optimized aerodynamics with lightweight body materials, aero wheels, an active air flap in the front bumper, and a full underbody cover. The result is a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd - strong for a subcompact SUV.

Standard 17-inch alloy wheels come on most trims, with available 19-inch wheels on higher trims. The GT gets high-performance all-season tires and exclusive design elements.

Technology and Interior Space

The cabin is built around a panoramic display consisting of dual 12.3-inch screens (instrument cluster and infotainment) plus a 5.3-inch HVAC display - nearly 30 inches of combined screen space. This is Kia's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), which offers robust connectivity and can be enhanced remotely through over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Available features include a 12-inch head-up display, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and Surround View Monitor. Digital Key 2.0 lets you lock and unlock the vehicle using a compatible smartphone.

The interior layout is clean and open, with a two-spoke steering wheel (three-spoke on GT-Line and GT trims) and an open centre console with retractable cupholders. Standard dual-zone climate control keeps the cabin comfortable. Front seats are heated as standard, with ventilation available on higher trims. Rear passengers get reclining seat backs (up to 40 degrees) and dedicated air vents.

Cargo capacity is 740 litres with the rear seats up, and the 60/40 split-folding rear seats lie flat when needed. A two-position luggage board provides underfloor storage, and the EV3 includes a 25-litre frunk. An optional Smart Power Tailgate opens automatically via the Smart Key, with adjustable opening height and speed.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The EV3 comes standard with eight airbags, including rear side airbags. Kia's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite includes standard Forward Collision Avoidance with automatic emergency braking and Hands-on Detection (HOD) that alerts you if your hands leave the steering wheel.

Two specialized applications are included: FCA Junction Turning (FCA-JT) helps avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles when turning left at intersections, while FCA Junction Crossing (FCA-JC) monitors for vehicles approaching from the left or right when driving straight through intersections. Both provide audible and visual alerts followed by automatic emergency braking in certain circumstances.

Other available ADAS features include:

  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA)
  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA)

The EV3 Delivers on Kia's Electric Promise

The 2027 Kia EV3 is proof that electric vehicles don't have to be expensive, complicated, or compromised. It's a subcompact SUV that offers the technology and range of larger EVs in a package that fits real-world needs.
